Grizzlies remain unbeaten

BY CHRISTIAN SZALAY

On Friday the 13th, unluckiness wasn’t the case in the Suburban League matchup between our own Wadsworth Grizzlies (8-0) and the Twinsburg Tigers (3-5).

Going into the game, the Grizzlies knew they’d see a very talented and athletic Tigers team, and they got what they expected. Twinsburg was the team to break the ice with a 26 yard TD pass midway through the first quarter. Shortly after, the Grizzlies drove down the field and scored in roughly one minute but failed to make the extra point.

After the first score of the game by the Tigers, the Grizzlies put together 5 unanswered drives moving the score to 40-7.

“Our offense played great like normal, but I was very impressed with the toughness of our defense after we faced adversity early,” said Brett Randolph, 11.

Joey Baughman put together a huge night, putting up Mr. Ohio type numbers. Baughman finished with around 300 pass yards with five passing TD’s and 120 yards rushing with one rushing TD. Other scores were by Brock Snowball, Mitchell Blackburn, Dom Laparo, Grant Martinez, and Nate Schickler.

“I am very proud of our team as a whole and the way we have been playing together this year,” said Mitchell Blackburn, 12.

The up-tempo, exciting offense of the Grizzlies aren’t the only thing to be impressed with. The hard-nosed defense also played a huge role in key stops and forcing three turnovers.

As the clock ran out, the Grizzlies remained atop of the National Suburban League standings, moving their league record to 5-0.

In the last 20 years, the Grizzly football team has won two Suburban titles. After this win, the Grizzlies are one game away from clinching a share of the SLT. The Grizzlies next opponent will be the Bee’s of Brecksville (3-5) in another highly anticipated Suburban League National match up for the Grizzlies senior night.
