After weeks of the recycling bins not being emptied in the classrooms of WHS, the recycling club is picked back up again. After Mrs. Allison Parsons announced that she was no longer going to be in charge of the club, Mrs. Katherine Wozniak, a Spanish teacher at WHS, decided to step up and take the position.
“My recycling bin was overflowing and I personally care about recycling properly so it was a perfect fit,” Wozniak said.
At the beginning of each week, students that are a part of the club will be responsible for specific spots in the school to go and collect the recycling from.
“It’s really fun to get to go around with my friends and help clean up the school and encourage others to recycle,” said Sienna Lucci, a junior at WHS.
Wozniak believes that in a school like Wadsworth High School where there is often use of paper and other recyclable materials, it is significant for students and staff to understand the importance of recycling.
“Paper, amongst other recyclable items, is used and disposed of in great quantities in a school this size,” Wozniak said. “It’s important to make everyone aware of proper disposal procedures for recyclable items,” said Wozniak
Students in the recycling club have the opportunity to understand the effect they have on the environment and how to properly dispose of paper and plastic products.
“You get to be a part of a smaller community like Wadsworth and make a big difference,” Lucci said.
The recycling club is looking for students to sign up and help empty the bins around the school. Students interested in the club can contact Mrs. Wozniak for more information.
