Zach Humrichouser was announced ‘Teacher of the Year’ at the fine arts assembly on Friday, May 1. Humrichouser has been teaching at Wadsworth for seven years, and this is his first time winning Teacher of the Year.
“[I feel] just really blessed,” Humrichouser said. “I work in an incredible district with incredible staff and students, and this is truly just an award that, you know, we all hope to go in there and make a difference in people’s lives and everything.”
Humrichouser teaches history classes and also coaches girls’ long-distance track. After receiving his award, he addressed the audience, expressing his gratitude and his honor and blessing to be teaching and coaching at Wadsworth. Humrichouser is also thankful for his coworkers, who welcomed him when he first came to Wadsworth.

“I’m excited for him,” said a member of Humrichouser’s family who attended the event. “I’m so excited for him; we are just so proud of him.”
The award is voted on by the student body and is intended for teachers who do their best for their students. Every year, Dr. Vincent Suber sends out a Google Doc before the assembly to the student body for them to pick who they think should win ‘Teacher of the Year.’ Students also have to fill out a reason why they are choosing the teacher. Last year, Scott Callaghan won the award before retiring.
“I’m just glad that I could play a small part in the lives of people here at Wadsworth High School,” Humrichouser said.
The fine arts assembly is the second-to-last assembly and is meant to showcase excellence in academics and the arts among the student body, as well as the teachers who help students achieve it.
“I think being that presence that students can count on and the consistency and the consistency that comes with that, I think just encourages students when they walk in those doors,” Humrichouser said. “That they are going to learn a few things, hopefully, and have a lot of fun along the way.”
