The AP Government class, taught by WHS teacher Robert Lynn, recently took an annual class trip to Wadsworth City Hall for tours and a day-in-the-life experience.
“They got to see that city government is like a microcosm of the federal government,” said Lynn. “There are three branches, and they have checks and balances just like the federal government does, so then they get to see a daily routine of how city government works.”
Students began the day’s trip with an overview of the city government’s work. The three branches of government, the Judge, the City Council President, and the Mayor, gave an introduction to everyone.
Julie Darlington, the Wadsworth Clerk of Court, organized the students’ tour, leading it, explaining it, and introducing the committees to the class. The class was split into groups that all toured different routes. Brynn Bemiller, a junior at WHS and AP Government student who attended the trip, was a part of the public safety group.

“I learned so much about how the safety director and first responders work to create a safe environment in Wadsworth,” said Bemiller. “They are very hardworking and obviously care deeply about keeping our citizens safe.”
The day ended with the President of Council, Safety Director, Police Chief, and Fire Chief having a mock committee meeting about a public safety topic. The goal of the trip was to give students a real-world experience in a government setting and to finish off the year strong for AP Government students.
