What is Brain Rot?
Due to the recent surge of “brain rot,” The Bruin has decided to help bring light to its vast spread across pop culture in the recent months and years. What is 6 7 ?
Six-seven originated from a lyric in the song “Doot Doot (6 7)” by Skrilla. The way in which Skrilla sings the six-seven line translated into how people say six-seven now. The phrase grew into a greater spotlight with the “6 7 Kid,” who was filmed saying the phrase “six-seven” with hand gestures. The song and video were the start of the trend spreading across social media platforms and among people across the globe. Many students have started saying the phrase over the past year. The phrase has no meaning. It is a pointless expression that is said in random contexts.
“I pick my battles and I reel it back in if it gets out of hand,” said Zach Humrichouser, history teacher at Wadsworth High School. “I understand that it is just part of teaching high schoolers in 2025. If the worst part of class is a freshman boy saying ‘6-7’ while I am talking about World War I, then I do not have much reason to complain.”
