As Wadsworth High School spring sports regular seasons are coming quickly to a close, the postseason is the next step for each sport. The pressure intensifies for each team during the playoff season.
Baseball
The varsity baseball team went 10-8-2 in the regular season and finished 4th in the Suburban League Conference. The team will be starting their playoff season on May 27 against Warren Harding.

Softball
The varsity softball team went 4-13 this season and finished 7th in the Suburban League Conference.
“Our biggest success this season was gelling as a team as time went on and everyone getting better and us becoming more of a team and playing together,” said Emily Gerber, a senior on the varsity softball team.
A highlight for the team this season was their first win against North Royalton.
“I feel like that was the turning point of our season and then our little hot streak of winning,” Gerber said.
Gerber explained the team overcame lots of challenges this season such as mental blocks, and being frustrated with themselves with what was going on. As the postseason was approaching Gerber explained how the team prepared.
“We put in a lot of work inside and outside of practice,” Gerber said. “Especially as a team, mentally, we built that bond together over time.”
Going into the postseason the girls suffered a loss in the first round of playoffs against North Royalton, 7-8, ending their season on May 19.

Boys Lacrosse
The varsity boys lacrosse team went 9-7 this season and finished 6th in the Suburban League Conference. The boys faced a loss in the first round of playoffs, ending their season. The game was against Shaker Heights with a score 6-12.
Girls Lacrosse
The varsity girls lacrosse team went 13-3 this season and finished 2nd in the Suburban League Conference.
“[We did well] working together, and we were all so close which helped so much with our team,” said Stella Robinson, a junior on varsity lacrosse.
One highlight from the regular season was beating teams that they had lost to in past seasons, like Copley and Brecksville. Even though they had more wins than losses, they also faced some challenges along the way.
“Our biggest challenges were injuries or us getting in our heads, because our team had so much talent and we let other teams’ records or scores get to us,” Robinson said.
Going into the postseason Robinson expressed how the team was ready to go into the post season with the same passion and drive they had in the regular season. Their season ended on Friday, May 15 with a loss to Strongsville, 8-10 in the first round of playoffs.
“It’s a shame ending the season losing, but I loved every bit of this season,” Robinson said.
Boys Tennis
The varsity boys tennis team came 6th in the Suburban League Conference this season. Head Coach, John Hutchinson talks about the regular and postseason.
“This season, you have nothing to lose,” Hutchinson said. “Just go out there, play your game, play smart.”
This year the state allowed three doubles and single teams instead of just two. This allowed players more opportunities to play in the postseason.
On Wednesday, May 13 the team had sectionals where Robert Beatty and Cameron Gorog, a doubles team, had ended their season. Luke Oliver and Jack Johnson also had their season come to an end the very same day.
On Friday, May 15 the team had Districts where doubles team, Vincent Gabaccini and Brandon Ball, had a big win against Hudson to secure getting into the quarter finals.
During the full length of the season, Hutchinson implements an acronym towards his athletes. PHD stands for Pride, Hustle, and Desire.
“That’s my thing that has been huge, that I’ve carried with me in over 20 years of coaching and when I was an athlete here are those three letters,” Hutchinson said.
Girls Track
The girls track team finished 3rd in the Suburban League Conference. Senior Jessie Stoops talks on the season and shares hopes for the postseason this year.
“It’s always like a team sport, so we try to keep that,” Stoops said.
Stoops had explained that although the weather had not been cooperating with the team this season they still kept going to get the goal of states.
“Our meets have gotten so cold and we’ve had to cancel because of rain.” Stoops stated.
With the track season still underway, some girls have done more than just help the team win meets. Hailey Otradovec, a senior at Wadsworth, had broken the 13 year old 400m dash record this season with a time of 55.85. It was previously set by Brittani Peltz with a time of 56.07.
“Focusing on our lifting plan early on for indoor season, that made a key role to our indoor and outdoor season,” Stoops said.
Stoops said that she has enjoyed track this year and is excited for the rest of the season for the girls.

Boys Track
The boys track team finished 3rd in the Suburban League Conference. The boys track team will be heading to regionals on May 28 and 30 in North Royalton.
As the 2025-26 sport seasons are all quickly coming to an end, the spring sports are the last wave.
