The Wadsworth men’s indoor track team competed at the D1 Indoor State Meet on March 6, which were hosted at SPIRE Academy in Geneva. With standout athletes like Calix Lemp, Alex Valentine, Lincoln Reeling and Brayden Murphy placing in multiple events.
The indoor season has spanned from the middle of winter until early March, with meets held weekly at SPIRE Academy on Fridays from December through now. The men’s team will now transition to their outdoor season, which begins right after Indoor ends and runs from March through May. During the state meet, multiple athletes from the Wadsworth men’s team placed in their respective events.

Calix Lemp, a senior who is committed to play football at Air Force, placed second overall in the 60-meter dash finals with a time of 6.87. Schools from all across Ohio were at this meet, with teams such as Mentor, Wayne, Olentangy, St.Ignatius and many more were present. During the high jump finals, senior Brayden Murphy placed 14th with a jump of six feet. The winning jump, which went to Elijah Harris of Western Central, was a jump of six feet and ten inches.
As for other results from the meet, thrower Lincoln Reeling placed 10th in the boys weight throw finals, with a throw of 57 feet and three inches.
A major difference between indoor and outdoor track is the difference in events. For example, there are events not included in the outdoor season such as the triple jump, the weight throw, and the 60 meter dash. However, some events do stay the same, such as the pole vault in which Alex Valentine placed fifth in by clearing a height of 14 feet. Valentine also placed 11th in the boys 200 meter finals with a time of 22.37 seconds.
“You gotta leave it all out on the track. Speed doesn’t come from talent alone, it comes from work,” said Valentine when asked about his performance at the state meet.
The Indoor season has come to an end, with multiple athletes doing well at the state tournament, placing in multiple events as the team will transition to the Outdoor season, which will run from now until the end of the school year, with meets and invitationals being hosted weekly coming up in March.
