On Wednesday, October 18, The National Honor Society hosted another successful blood drive in collaboration with the American Red Cross. Students from WHS were highly anticipating the opportunity to donate blood for a great cause.

“I love volunteering, it’s really fun because I like to help people that are giving back,” said Hannah Saylor, 12.

The members of NHS anticipate this blood drive every year because of the opportunity it presents. NHS members volunteer their time to chaperone the blood drive and help the Red Cross ensure a safe and successful blood drive.

“I’m devastated because I couldn’t donate because of antibiotics but at least I can still volunteer,” said Will Virgin, 12

Donors were interviewed thoroughly about their medical history and other questions pertaining to their ability to donate blood. Although some were turned down because of this, there was a high turnout of people.

Despite the fact that dozens of students came to donate each period of the day, some were nervous to donate for the first time.

“I feel kind of shaky, I think that’s just me though,” said Tyler Hachat, 11. “If it’s saving even one person it’s worth it.”

There will be another blood drive in the spring for students to donate once again. Students can sign up to donate the week leading up to the drive. This drive helps people around the world to receive the blood they need. Remember, one pint of blood saves 3 lives.
