Are teens fretting over the admission process for college?

The beginning of the school year brings the pressure that every senior is bound to feel. That pressure comes in the form of college admissions. The process of applying takes quite a while; A significant amount of time is spent writing essays, and completing all the necessary applications.

We are suddenly responsible for our future, and if we do not manage it correctly, it can feel as if the proverbial walls are closing in. After all, High School is coming to a close for many of us

“We understand applying to college can feel stressful for some students. It can generate feelings of anxiety when students are approaching hard deadlines, excitement to pursue dreams that a few years ago seemed far away, or frustration and fear if they aren’t sure where they want to go or do,” says our high school’s guidance department.

Applying to college could be compared to proposing to a significant other, and them saying, “Let me get back to you in a couple of months.”
Just remember that Richard Carlson, a certified psychotherapist, has determined that the majority of stress we experience is self-inflicted by over thinking.

To give colleges more credit, they have tried to simplify the process with something called the Common App. “I used the Common App for all my applications and it made it easier, but it was still stressful getting everything that I needed,” said, Tyler Caudill, 12.

Look on the upside of this, if students go ahead and get all of those essays and applications done ahead of time, then they don’t have to worry about it because procrastination and stress go hand in hand. All that college related stress will disappear, and students can really enjoy their senior year.
