With the inclusion of Wadsworth Intermediate School and Wadsworth Middle School, the high school held their winter concert on Dec. 15.
“This is a district wide concert, so grades fifth through 12, so I do not even know how many people that is,” said Gracie Gale, a junior in wind ensemble. “It is everyone in the band and then all their parents, so I am going to say at least a thousand people, probably twice that.”
There are three different high school bands that are performing. There is the symphonic band, jazz band and the wind ensemble. All having different songs that they will be playing, until the last part of the concert when all the bands will play Jingle Bells together.
“My favorite song we are playing right now is called Chili Pepper Christmas, it is kind of a medley of a whole bunch of different songs, like Christmas songs,” said Felix Patterson, a junior in jazz band.
The bands will perform on the gym floor and have specific sections depending on which of the bands they are in.
“Right now, we are doing Christmas songs and a lot of our songs are spoofs on Christmas songs, and there will be a twist,” said Patterson. “One of our songs is called Funky Saint Nick, it is supposed to be like the Saint Nick song but in a style of funk.”
The preparation for the concert started around Veterans Day. While the wind ensemble started practicing after Veterans Day, the jazz and symphonic bands started before Veterans Day.
“We have rehearsals every single class period for the ensemble, sometimes we run over into academic lab,” said Gale. “Preparing in class you just have to show up and have the music down, we are expected to have our music learned already so we can put it together.”
