The Wadsworth High School Boys Varsity Bowling team has kicked off its season with high expectations.
The Medina Gazette has rated them as the best Bowling team in the county after last year’s 13-0 season. Gazette Most Valuable Player Hayden Eagon-Mohlmaster, a junior at Wadsworth High School, led the team in scoring.
So far, the boys’ Varsity and Junior Varsity teams are both 2-0 in pre-season Suburban League play.
Team captain and senior Mason Friedt is excited for what is to be expected during the season.
“We want to repeat as suburban league champs for sure,” Friedt said.
Friedt is excited to compete with the team at the Muskingum University Invitational on Dec. 6. The Grizzlies have won this invitational the past two years and are looking for a third straight victory at Muskingum.
“We’re going for a third straight win,” Friedt said about the upcoming tournament, “It feels like our[seniors] lasting legacy.”
This tournament is an important invitational with teams like Medina High School and Twinsburg High School competing against the Grizzlies for the tournament win.
Colin Fitzgerald, a senior on the Bowling team, is most excited to spend his final season with his friends.
“I just enjoy being able to spend this time being able to bowl with my friends,” Fitzgerald said about his three years on the team, “That’s kind of the reason I do it.”
Fitzgerald believes that being around his friends and teammates has made him a better bowler while on the Bowling team.
“When you have friends and teammates to lift you up if you’re not doing well, it makes a lot of the games a lot better,” Fitzgerald said.
The Boys Varsity Bowling team will next play in Wadsworth against Barberton High School on Dec. 17 at Kolony Bowl during the team’s senior night.
