A new school record has been set for Wadsworth High School Girls Volleyball on September 25, after Rowan Kelly hit 2,000 assists.
After deciding to start playing volleyball six years ago because of curiosity, Kelly has now made a name for herself within Wadsworth’s volleyball program. Since trying out the sport in middle school, Kelly has consistently stuck with it, and the dedication and consistency are beginning to make waves.
Many people shared support with Kelly throughout her volleyball career, including her whole family, all of her past teammates, and her club volleyball community at NOVA JUNIORS. Kelly didn’t plan on hitting 2,000 assists as a goal for her career, but rather it just came along with the work she put in for her overall high school career.
“I didn’t set exact goals like getting 2,000 assists, but more just like to be able to help my team win and put my best effort in every day,” said Kelly.
Physically, Kelly said many workouts, practices, and private lessons were worked at in order to achieve her skills she had built that led her into becoming the player she is today.
“Mentally, I believe that having confidence can make you significantly better and help you reach your highest potential,” said Kelly.
This mindset and dedication obtained by Kelly helped her to reach the new record and get offered opportunities.
Though Kelly worked hard, she believes that her teammates are one of the biggest factors in her life. Kelly says she loves most about volleyball is really just getting to play with her best friends and getting to compete with other teams she admires.
“I am proud of my accomplishment, but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates and everyone who pushed me to become the player I am,” said Kelly.
This past volleyball season, Kelly worked alongside her teammates to carry an overall score of 23-1 ongoing into post season. Alongside the seasons’ score, the team has also achieved a ranking of number one in the conference.
“Rowan is an incredible leader, she is always positive, encouraging to her teammates, and always wants the best for our team,” said Quinn Macko, outside hitter for the varsity volleyball team at WHS.
Throughout her volleyball career, Kelly has worked with the goal of just improving. The mindset ended up working out for her after all these years, because Kelly ended up getting committed to playing Division 1 volleyball at Ohio University. Kelly also cares a lot about her academics and cannot wait to further her academic career at Ohio University.
In what remains of her high school career, Kelly has goals to make it back to the states, and continue playing confident volleyball with her team.
