Soprema Senior Center gets a new gazebo and reopens café

Soprema Senior Center, located right next to the Wadsworth YMCA, installed a new gazebo and remodeled their café.

This center is intended for people of the ages 55 and up in order to give them a place to go if they want to relax, have some fun or meet new people. They hold activities for the senior citizens.

The newly implemented gazebo was installed with the hopes of benefiting the senior center.

“That is going to give us expanded program space,” said Lori Wilkinson, Interim Director of Soprema Senior Center. “Programs will be able to meet out there. Sometimes all of our program rooms are full so we will be able to offer that space.”

COVID-19 has been a setback to this gazebo being built. The kit to build it was ordered two months prior to the actual construction of the gazebo due to COVID-19 shipping delays.

The gazebo itself only took two days to get up and was put up by Berlin’s Gardens.

There is also a remodeled cafe that was just reopened Monday November 15 and is in action. Anyone from the community is welcome to come and get some food, coffee or play games with the other seniors that are there.

“It’s also going to give expanded dining for the Soprema Cafe, since we all know outdoor dining is a thing since COVID,” said Wilkinson.

The cafe and outdoor gazebo was donated by the Wadsworth Older Adults Foundation.

“The cafe is operated by Medina Creative Housing and their staff,” said Wilkinson.

The dining cafe is open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it is completely open to the public.

“It’s also a place a Senior can stop in anytime,” said Wilkinson. “We have free WiFi and they can come with their laptop or iPad and just want to sit and relax.”

Most people drive but the center is also on the Medina County Transit route for guests who are unable to drive themselves.
