Wadsworth High’s graduation to look different this year

Wadsworth Highs graduation to look different this year

BY LIZ GROMOFSKY

With all the ups and downs of the 2020-2021 school year, Wadsworth High School’s graduation will look a bit different this year than years in the past.

“Graduation will be held at the stadium, weather permitting,” said Steve Moore, Principal of Wadsworth High School.

“If it is raining, we will move it to 7:00 PM,” said Moore. “If it is raining all day, we will move it to Monday, May 31 at noon.”

Seniors from past years throw their caps into the air. This year, seniors will throw their caps on the field.

The graduation ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at 2:00 PM.

Each graduate gets five tickets. Seniors had a chance to request extra tickets if needed.

“The stage will be at the 15 yard line facing the south end of the stadium,” said Moore. “The students will sit on the field in chairs.”

Parents and guests will sit in the grandstands on either side of the field.

“It will be just like it normally is, the only big difference is that we will not all walk in as one big group,” said Moore.

There will be five students speaking at the ceremony.

“Lauren Claxton is the class president so she will speak,” said Moore. “Sophia Anderson will be speaking on the Alma Mater.”

Zach Adams is speaking about academics, Ryan Seiber will be speaking about athletics, and Isaac Machar will be speaking about the arts.

“Those students will speak and then we will pass out the diplomas,” said Moore. “The only major change is that the cap throwing will be done on the field, instead of in the commons.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected many different big events in the past year. This graduation ceremony will bring a sense of normalcy back and celebrate the seniors all in one.
