On Saturday, January 11 the WHS Elite Choir hosted its third annual Princess Academy for kids in kindergarten to fourth grade. The little princesses arrived in their finest gowns, ready for a fun day filled with meet and greets, story time, games, choreography and more.
Each year members of the Elite Choir volunteer to run the Princess Academy. Amanda Lutz has been a volunteer for the past three years. This year she dressed up as Rapunzel.
“The kids were so excited to see me,” said Lutz, 12. “They are always so excited to meet and interact with their favorite princesses.”
The highlight of the day for many of the princesses was learning vocals and choreography to the popular song “Under the Sea” from Disney’s The Little Mermaid. McKenna Marcum helped teach the song to the kids.
“I was a fairy godmother, meaning that I was in charge of a group of princesses,” said Marcum, 11. “They absolutely loved learning the dance.”
In addition to meeting princesses and learning the song and dance, the princesses also enjoyed many other activities. These included crafts, hair and nails, snacks, games, and story time. At the conclusion of the camp the princesses performed for their parents.
“Princess Academy is so rewarding,” said Marcum. “Seeing the kids light up when they met the princesses and learned the song just made my day.”
Each year the Princess Academy gives young girls a chance to live a day in the life of a princess. The camp will continue to be hosted each year to give more students this magical experience.
