Producer, singer and musician Jane Remover has returned with a new project, titled “Revengeseekerz.” This is their third studio album, following the emotionally heavy 2023 project “Census Designated.” A complete switch from previous projects, Remover went into a more aggressive soundscape than ever before, utilizing heavy underlying bass and glitchy synths.
The album begins with “TWICE REMOVED,” a wonderfully layered rage song with a chopped vocal sample and a panning synth. The song introduces listeners into the main sound of the album, giving listeners bits of rage, hyperpop, a more synth driven sub-genre of pop along with House, a genre typically heard in clubs or used during DJ sets.
The next major highlight was the second song “Psychoboost,” which contained a wonderful feature from rapper Danny Brown. This song switches styles and goes for more of an electro-house feel, while still containing elements of rage and hyperpop.
The next major highlight is a masterclass in production skills, “Experimental Skin.” This song is just a crazy continuation of the album. The final minute of this song is just pure hyperpop bliss. The main drop on this song is phenomenal, bringing an insane energy. Some of the next few tracks are wonderfully produced, each of them contain major drops that go into a central beat.
In the middle of the tracklist lies the best song on the album and frankly, one of the best in their discography, titled “Dreamflasher.” This song contains self sampled instrumentals from the 2024 song, “Flash in The Pan.” This song starts off with a broken up chop of “Flash in The Pan,” then evolves into a banging rage beat. The bass on this song is incredibly placed, with a main break in the middle of the song where the bass shines along with a quiet vocal sample. Then, the song goes back to the same beat along with added bass and vocal chops, and contains a sample of the popular pokemon Palkia, specifically sampling its scream.
This all culminates in one of the best songs of the year, being complete chaos while still maintaining melodic elements.
Another major highlight is “Dancing with your eyes closed,” which was a previously released single for the album. This song has more hyperpop elements rather than just straight up rage, which is a nice change in pace compared to “Dreamflasher.” The album then gives us an incredible final act, with heavy hitters such as “Professional Venegeance,” and the album’s closer, “JRJRJR.”
Overall, this album is the best project to come out this year, and I surely do not see it getting topped as Jane Remover effortlessly blends fun samples along with crazy bass structures and drums. Remover is truly a master of their craft and it shows.
