Local student decks out yard for Halloween

WHS junior Cassie Lemasters is already celebrating Halloween in full swing. Every September, Lemasters and her mother go all out, decorating their front yard with skeletons, tombstones, spiders, and more.

“It’s one of those things where September 1st rolls around, and it’s like…okay when are the Halloween stores opening up?” said Lemasters.

The front yard setup changes from year to year, as the Lemasters add more spooky items. They have built some objects themselves too, including a coffin that is carried by some skeletons. Lots of the items have a history to them and have been included each year since Lemasters’s mother started the tradition as a teenager.

“This is something that we’ve done for as long as I can remember,” said Lemasters. “Halloween is my mom’s favorite holiday, and it’s my favorite too.”

At dusk, the front yard is eerily lit with red and blue lights. On Halloween, even more items are added to top off this haunting front yard experience. Lemasters mentions that a few little kids in particular have really enjoyed this experience.

“All of the time little kids come by and love it,” said Lemasters. “For the past few years, there has been this one little boy who comes by every single day to and from school. It’s so cute.”

Lemasters encourages readers to visit this front yard haunt, but first, you must solve this riddle:

It’s a hop, skip, and a jump away from a place where your kids go all day.

After Halloween, the decorations are tucked away in the garage, eagerly awaiting next year’s spooky season. This year is a bit different, as the Lemasters family is moving, but they plan to carry on this tradition at their new house.
