Wadsworth hosts fifth annual Rising Star camp

On Saturday October 12, the Wadsworth High School Show Choir held its fifth annual Rising Star Camp. This one day camp gave students in grades kindergarten to sixth grade a chance to learn a song and dance along with members of the Show Choir.
The three hour camp consisted of vocal sessions, learning choreography, games and snacks. The show choir hosts this event each year in order to show young students what it is like to be in the high school’s show choir.
Sophia Anderson, 11, was one of the Show Choir members who helped during the day.

“Rising Star Camp allows the kids to see and get excited about choir from a young age,” Anderson said.
Students were separated into two groups according to grade. The first group was kindergarten to second grade and the second group was third grade to sixth grade. The younger group learned the song “Roar” by Katy Perry and the second group learned the “Party Rock Anthem.”
Choreography for the songs was taught by Katy Andrews and Brendan Phillips.
After the students learned all the ins and outs of the songs, they had the opportunity to perform in front of their parents.

Madi Bidinger, 11, volunteered to help lead the students through the songs and choreography.
“It is really rewarding to see the kids perform and be proud of what they have accomplished,” said Bidinger.
Rising Star is a camp that allows young students experience choir and spend time with the high school show choir members. The camp will continue to host the event in years to come in order to inspire future students.
