At the end of each school year, students are asked to nominate a teacher at Wadsworth High School that they wish to recognize for the teacher’s creativity, passion, and effective methods of teaching in the classroom.
Students at WHS can nominate any teacher of their choosing. In order to nominate, a student must write a short essay that explains why they believe a specific staff member deserves teacher of the year. The nominations are submitted to National Honor Society. NHS will then vote on a winner, taking into account the number of nominations a teacher gets as well as the explanations that the students give for their particular nomination.

During the nomination process, teachers are unaware of who is being added to the running. The teacher of the year is announced to the student body and staff at the Fine Arts Assembly, which takes place in early May. Some of the previous winners have been Mrs. Rohrer and Mr. Schmeltzer Sr. Last year’s recipient of the honorable title was Mr. Berg.
“I did not do anything in particular. The students are my priority, and my goal is to push them towards success,” said Berg.
This year, students are looking forward to finding out the winner of teacher of the year. There are a number of strong contenders in the running, many of which are very capable of seizing the title. Submissions for your favorite teacher are due to Mr. Singleton or Mrs. Rosenberger by Tuesday, March 26.
