Citizens of Wadsworth were able to participate in a beam signing on Wednesday, September 4, to celebrate the construction progress of the new Intermediate School on Broad Street.
Hammond Construction, which is building the new Intermediate School, decided to allow the public to sign steel beams that will be visible when the intermediate school is built. It allowed people to be a part of Wadsworth’s history. Kim Adams is a part of Hammond Construction who worked on the beam signing project. She helped organize the event and take photos.
“As we’ve grown, we’ve tried to find ways to reach out to the community,” Adams said. “Because the schools are for them, for their children, and for the staff. Having these touch points are really special opportunities for them to be a part of the project.”
They also had two small beams at the current intermediate school for the last two days for students graduating in 2032 and 2033 to sign. Staff members would also be able to contribute to the project.
“All the beams that were signed will be placed in the canopy out front that faces the high school,” said Joe Swantek, another member of the Hammond Construction team.
Younger Wadsworth students from the elementary schools and the current intermediate school were able to sign the beam. Wadsworth parents, many of whom graduated from the district, got to sign their names as well. Jessica Stevenson, who is the parent of Lauren and Zander Stevenson, came to sign her name along with her children. She felt it was important to be a part of the community and contribute.
“We wanted to be a part of this big celebration for Wadsworth,” Stevenson said.
Wadsworth is planning on opening the new intermediate school to students in August 2025
