Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Wadsworth High School celebrated in a different way to send the seniors off. On Friday, June 26 food trucks, prizes, and a drive-in movie were held in place as a senior celebration night.
Kicking off the night students pulled into the west side of the student parking lot where they had the option from two food trucks: Betty’s Bomb Burgers and Funky Truckeria. The food trucks each contained three options for students to choose from. Volunteers ran from car to car taking orders, delivering food, and handing out special cups to 2020 graduates.
“I’ve never heard of these places before but the food was ready fast and tasted good,” said Michael Dallas, a graduating senior.
Once students got their food, they drove to the east side of the parking lot to eat their food where they were given water and the senior issue of the Bruin, as music played over the parking lot.
“It was a good time to sit with my friends in the car while eating and listening to music,” said senior Abby Wichterman. “We didn’t get a normal prom but it was still fun.”
Prizes provided by post-prom were announced by Mr. Moore. Over a hundred prizes were handed out to seniors. Top prizes included PS4s, Apple watches, and smart TVs. Other prizes included Bluetooth speakers, beanbags, and gift cards.
“With all these changes to prom, I didn’t know how good prizes were gonna turn out, but I ended up winning a PS4,” said Kate Messam.
After the parking lot celebrations students then headed to Blue Sky drive-in to watch Ferris Bullers Day Off. Popcorn, candy, and soda were given out to students as they parked their cars and got ready for the movie. The students then watched the movie and finished the senior celebration together before they headed to graduation on Sunday.
“That was my first time watching Ferris Bullers Day Off,” said senior Matt Flaker. “Free snacks and another chance to see my graduating class made it a great night.”
COVID-19 has caused many events to be canceled. Wadsworth High Schools’ senior celebration was a final effort to give students a celebration before they graduate.
