The Cleveland Cavaliers had, not only the worst start of the season, but the worst start of the season for a team that was in the Finals the season prior. Previously, the Allen Iverson lead 76ers had this unflattering record with five losses to start the season. This resulted in head coach Tyronn Lue being fired. Collin Sexton, the Cavalier’s rookie point guard, faced a lot of unjust criticism from veterans of the team, claiming from an anonymous player that “He doesn’t know how to play.”

Sexton now leads the team in three-pointers made. Guard, and 2016 NBA Champion, JR Smith parted ways with the Cavs after some disagreements with the Cavaliers’ management.

The Cavs ended their six game losing streak, defeating the Atlanta Hawks, but they still struggled each game.

The season picked up when the Cavs played the Lakers. Both Cleveland and Los Angeles had this date circled in their calendar as LeBron was making his return to the Quicken Loans Arena. The Lakers won 109-105 and Cedi Osman lead the Cavs with 21 points.

Almost beating one of the best teams in the league, built confidence in the young Cavalier team. The Cavs moved on and defeated the 76ers, a team that is currently 3 seed in the East, 121-112. This win ended the 76ers ten game win streak on their home court.

The Cavaliers moved onto the Rockets, a team that made it to the Western Conference Finals last year and had the best record in the league and had beat them 117-108. Collin Sexton scored a career-high 29 points against them.

“All of the Cavs’ wins so far have been pure luck” said Evan Merkle, 11, on whether or not the recent Cavs’ wins meant anything.

Merkle might be correct because the Cavaliers have lost three games after this short two win streak.

Zeke Callaghan, 11, disagrees with Merkle and stated that, “The Cavs have a growing prodigy, Cedi Osman. He brings the high energy to each game.”

Whether or not either are true, one thing is for sure, the Cavs are 5-18 because LeBron James left.
