Main Street Wadsworth hosted its most recent First Friday event Sept. 5 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., announced as “Wild West Wadsworth,” for the community to enjoy a free family-friendly afternoon.
First Friday themes are planned and created once a month in downtown Wadsworth by the help of Main Street Wadsworth, an organization of volunteers that come together to preserve downtown Wadsworth and enhance the life and community of Wadsworth residents. For the month of September, Main Street organized a wild western theme for the square. In the past Main Street has planned themes such as, “Luck of the Irish,” “Flight Fest” and “Safety Palooza.”
The event is free to the public and family-friendly, containing events within the square such as; Axe-Masters’ mobile axe throwing in front of MC Real Estate, a hay maze at Grace Lutheran Church, line dancing on College Street, a horse and carriage on College Street, free to enter raffles for prizes such as a basket or Blackstone Grill and a Bronx Country Live Concert free to watch in the middle of College Street.

Tessa Demiter, a sophomore at Wadsworth High School, attended First Friday with her friend. “Me and my friend didn’t have anything else to do, so we heard about First Friday and wanted to check it out.” Demiter was not left disappointed stating, “[I liked] our whole community getting together and having fun.”
Local businesses had stands up throughout the event offering free treats to the public, gifts and conversation to grow closer within the community.

“The atmosphere and getting to see different people of Wadsworth and different organizations [are what I like about First Friday],” said Brooke Gifford, a member and volunteer of Main Street Wadsworth that attended First Friday to help run the information table. “I think First Friday is great and anyone should try to get involved.”
Main Street will host the next First Friday Oct. 3, to celebrate “Wads-Toberfest” in downtown Wadsworth. It is open to the public at no cost, and will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m..
