Maddox Batson, a young upcoming country artist spoke to the Bruin about his new album and his quick rise to fame. At only 15 years old, Batson has over 605 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify and over 3.4 million followers on TikTok.
Batson was born in Hermitage, TN, later moving to Birmingham, AL at the age of seven.
Before the social media fame, Batson had a life similar to most kids. Batson was a three-sport athlete playing baseball, basketball and football. However, in the summer of 2022, Batson was diagnosed with Osgood-Schlatter disease. The disease primarily affected his right knee, which prematurely ended his sports career.
“Coming up my entire life. I was a huge sports kid, I played basketball, baseball, all those types of things, I got hurt, so I had nothing to do. So I started playing music,” Batson said.

“As a teenager myself, and being 15, and you know everyone battles with like mental health,” Batson said “And all this kind of stuff, especially teenagers, and I guess me as well. So it’s just like I know what you’re about, and I wanted to like incorporate myself with it. So it was an easy choice,”
This was especially important to Batson due to the media pushing off men’s mental health.
Batson’s career took off after one of his most popular singles “Girl In Green”. The song features a girl he saw at a concert once wearing green. He forgot the name of the girl, so for months his team searched for her. Batson’s team found her and they are still in contact today.
Batson hopes to have different collaborations with different artists in the future.
”But I take a lot of inspiration from, I guess, like Morgan Wallen, and like Justin Bieber and all this type of guy, so I’d love to work with them one day,” Batson Said.
Batson does not like setting goals for himself, but just likes to wait and see what the future holds.
Batson’s new album “First Dance (The After Party)” was released on May 2, 2025.
