Girls Varsity Lacrosse concluded their season with a 7-15 record, ending their run in the state tournament playoff game against Strongsville on May 16. The team played a total of 20 games this year, practicing every weekday except scheduled game weeks, which were usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Their overall win percentage stands at .421, with an 8-11 record.
Emma Lynn, a senior at Wadsworth High, played her final high school lacrosse game against Strongsville. Lynn is a midfielder, a position that involves both offensive and defensive responsibilities.
“Midfielders start in the middle of the field with a draw where the two teams fight for the ball,” Lynn said. “After one team gains possession, midfielders follow the ball up and down the field, and do not have any restrictions on where they can go on the field.”
The team secured their first playoff victory against Glen Oak with a score of 8-3.
“I am proud of our team because both of our playoff games were a good fight,” Lynn said. “Our first game got delayed in the middle for almost 2 hours because of thunder. At the start of the delay, we were losing, but after the long delay, we came back strong and ended up winning.”
The team often did team bonding activities. Sometimes, seniors did team bonding with each other, and other times, the whole team had bonding experiences.
“The seniors had a sleepover the night before our last playoff game as a final bonding experience for the class of 2025,” Lynn said.
Addison Cyrus, a junior at Wadsworth High, plays as the varsity team’s goalie.
“We do team dinners and spirit week for our last week of playing time,” Cyrus said. “Every year, seniors also get to choose a place to eat, and we stop there after away games.”
As the season wrapped up, some varsity players engaged in summer leagues to maintain their skills, while others chose to relax.
“I am very proud of how much and how far my team has come since last year,” Cyrus said.
