Wadsworth High School hosted their annual Fine Arts Assembly on May 2, 2025. The assembly consisted of performances from the departments of choir, band, speech and debate, winter guard.
Along with the performances, there were awards given in areas like art, academics, and world language.
As awards for different subject areas were distributed, one award was given to the Teacher of the Year. This year, Scott Callaghan, a retiring English teacher at Wadsworth High School, received the award.
“One thing we’re adding this year is we’re going to recognize our retiring teachers,” said Kalyn Davis, the choir director and Fine Arts Department Head at Wadsworth High School. “Student council co-presidents are going to introduce them and I’m excited for the student body to see who is retiring and to give them that acknowledgment.”
The MCs of the assembly were James Welsh (12) and Gianna Turano (12), whom were chosen by Davis based on how well they speak.
“My favorite part about MCing has always been entertaining the audience and above all avoid being boring,” Welsh said.
The Rhythm in Red choir performed for the whole choir department. They performed “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning” written by Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rodgers, then “Don’t Rain on my Parade” written by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill.
The choir began practicing in early March through vocals, choreographies and assessments.
There was also a Speech and Debate performance from Kendall Randolph (11) and Jack Mallory (11) for Duo Interpretation. They have practiced and rehearsed for tournaments throughout the Speech and Debate season.
A musical piece was performed by the “Legally Blonde” drama group.
“It [the assembly] showcases what we offer at WHS. People might not know we have a winter guard, people might not know that we have this elite jazz band,” Davis said.
This assembly happens annually in the second semester.
“I feel we are very lucky to be in a school that values the drama department the same way they value our football team,” Welsh said.
