Mark Postak, Wadsworth High School teacher and girls’ basketball assistant coach, has won the Ohio High School Basketball Association’s Assistant Coach of the Year award.
This award was given to a total of three coaches throughout Ohio.
“It’s a recognition of the culmination of thirty-four years of giving to the Wadsworth girls basketball program,” said Postak.
The award accredits individuals who have greatly contributed to their programs.

“The people look at records and such, but there’s so much more to coaching and we’ve been very blessed to have very good teams over the years,” said Postak.
One aspect of coaching Postak values is that he is able to see WHS students in a different atmosphere, particularly in competition.
Postak was nominated by Andrew Booth, the girls’ basketball head coach and an interventionist specialist at Wadsworth High School.
“He exemplifies all the things that are right with high school athletics,” said Booth. “Striving to always get better, teamwork, lessons that are learned, loyalty, all those things are part of what makes Coach Postak so valuable to our school.”
Postak is retiring from teaching at the end of this school year. However, the prospects of leaving coaching are unclear.
“We’re hoping that he’s going to, in his retirement, continue to coach for us,” said Booth.
This award has made Postak reflect on his career both inside and outside of the classroom.
“He has been a mentor for hundreds of girls that play basketball here at the high school,” said Booth. “And the success that the program has had with him being a big part of it is really incredible.”
The girls’ basketball team has won the state championship twice, in 1997 and 2016. They also harbor numerous suburban league championships. Ultimately, Postak feels gratitude for the award and for Wadsworth High School.
