Wadsworth High School’s Student Council organized a Spring Fling event for senior citizens to get together and enjoy a morning at the school on Saturday, March 8.
Corbin Demiter, a sophomore and active student council member, helped other members and Claire Harig, who is the head of the Community Service Committee, plan this event for the senior citizens over the past few weeks.
“We have not done anything like this before,” Demiter said.
This event was put together in a student council meeting and was a part of the creative brainstorming process. In these meetings, the committee wanted to create fun events that would excite the senior citizens of Wadsworth.
Harig orchestrated this event with her peers. She came across this idea on social media and thought it would be perfect to do at the school as a fun community event. Harig was excited to implement this plan because she felt it would have a positive impact and was eager to collaborate with the senior center.
“I thought this would be a great way to connect with community members,” Harig said.
When brainstorming decoration ideas, they wanted a fun and pastel-colored vibe to this event. The committee purchased a variety of pastel balloons and flowers to compliment and a photoshoot to capture the event. Harig put together a table of snacks consisting of cookies, fruits and cupcakes for food.
On the day of the event Senior citizens danced, enjoyed snacks and refreshments, socialized and spent time with loved ones and partied with members of the student council.
Harig and her committee members are eager to plan more events like this one.
