The Choir Department performed on Thursday, February 13, in the Performing Arts Center at 7:00 pm for their classical concert.
Annabelle Hancock, a sophomore and a member of Elite Choir, said that the choirs prepared for the concert for two months and had extra practice throughout to get everything cleaned up for the audience.
“We took time during our lab period to practice with varsity choirs, seeing as we have combined songs with them,” Hancock said. “Additionally, we had a dress rehearsal the night before the day of the concert to make sure everything looked and sounded good. We re-ran the songs and checked blocking to make sure everything was good to go.”
During the performance, Elite Choir sang “Na Numa,” then was joined by New Edition to put on a rendition of “Wake Me Up” by Wham!, and finally sang “You Are Light” and “Sonny’s Basketball Story” with the mass choir.
Camila Hernandez, a sophomore and another member of Elite Choir, said that the concert improved from last year.
“I felt like we definitely got better than freshman year,” Hernandez said. “There’s always room for improvement, obviously, but we were really good as a whole.”
This concert was especially special because the last song, “Sonny’s Basketball Story,” was dedicated to a seven-year-old named Sonny by his eleven-year-old brother, Dominic. Sonny has cerebral palsy and is blind, and Dominic had written the song for him, which prompted him to give the song to a composer. The choir sang it for the family and the rest of the community, sharing a sweet moment between two brothers.
The classical concert was full of lively songs, great costumes, and performances by talented students. All three choirs were passionate during the production, showing their families and the Wadsworth community what they had been practicing.
