Wadsworth will see a new club called Wadsworth Filmmakers rise. They held their first meeting in January.
“My big dream for this place would be if we were able to develop our own feature film and get it played at festivals and maybe win some rewards,” said Matthew Minor, the founder of the Wadsworth Filmmakers and a Wadsworth High School alumni.
He has experience in filmmaking with groups such as the JCFilms Production Club, a filmmaking club in North Canton.
Minor got the idea to create a filmmakers’ club in Wadsworth after working with JCFilms Production Club and realizing Wadsworth did not have a similar group. He inquired about it on Wadsworth Neighbors, which is a Facebook group for Wadsworth residents.
“The response to them [his post] was absolutely amazing,” Minor said. “People were super interested in this idea, so I made a group chat on Messenger and Facebook.”
During the first meeting, the people who attended shared possible goals and ideas for what the club could create.

“Right now, we’re still in the early planning stage,” Minor said.
Minor was inspired by multiple people in his life to start the club.
“It took a lot of courage and a lot of bravery for me to possibly arrange this and put this together,” Minor said. “It really did warm my heart that [first] meeting, the way it went.”
There are high hopes for the club.
“As a WCTV board member, and videographer myself, I am absolutely here to support them and be a resource for whatever comes,” said Jenny Young, a videographer and owner of the SHE Did It Videography.
The group will have its second meeting on February 25, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in the Wadsworth WCTV building.
“All that matters is we’re getting stuff moving forward and in my opinion, that’s what’s most important about filmmaking,” Minor said.
