Tate Moore graduated from Wadsworth High in 2011. Currently, he is working for Barstool Sports, but there is more to his story than just that.
He formerly was a coach for the Granville Blue Aces, the girls’ basketball team at Granville High School. During his tenure at Granville, the team went 52-0 during home games, whilst only losing one game during Moore’s final season at Granville.
Before working full-time at Barstool, Moore was also a teacher at Granville High School for nine years. During this time, the area he was working in held a Barstool Invitational, where he could showcase his creative writing skills in a competitive environment, in which he was offered a job by Dave Portnoy, the founder and owner of Barstool Sports.
He chose to keep teaching at Granville while doing some part-time work with Barstool for seven years. He then transitioned to Barstool full-time, leaving his teaching career and moving to Chicago.
Moore was initially intrigued by Barstool because of the flexible hours and creative working environment, which he figured he could thrive in.
“My day was seven to three,” Moore said. “While there were things I liked, I love the freedom at Barstool.”
Moore’s main job is to blog sports news and create funny posts regarding Ohio sports. He frequently posts about the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Guardians, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Moore believes writing for the Bruin has prepared him for his current occupation.
Moore stated that he was essentially forced into the Bruin, but ended up sticking with it.
“In 9th grade, I was basically dragged out after class after a creative assignment down to Coach Gramuglia’s office,” Moore said.
Moore became a teacher after high school and still has his teaching license, just in case he decides he wants to go back to teaching whether that be at Granville or another school.
Barstool as a company has been around since 2003, so they are a relatively new company in the sports world, yet it has made a profound impact on sports culture, which Moore is helping cultivate with his daily blogs and posts.
“I blog every day; how do you take a general news story and make it interesting?” Moore said. “That’s what I do.”
Currently living in Chicago, where Barstool has its main headquarters, Moore is embracing his occupation with Barstool to the fullest. Whether that be traveling across the country to college football games, or throwing out the first pitch at the Cleveland Guardians game, which is something not many fans get the chance to do.
Moore has also expanded from just blogging.
“I just started my own full time podcast, I’d love to rise up the ranks and go to sports events not just as a fan, but a worker. I’m trying to do as many of the cool experiences I can. I’m trying to say yes to every single cool thing I can do,” Moore said.
Tate’s life has changed over the past few years, going from a coach and a teacher at Granville High School, to now living in Chicago and blogging for a living. While also being able to travel to multiple sports events across the country, such as the Ohio State Buckeyes games against Northwestern or Michigan.
