The girls and boys bowling team at Wadsworth scored big on Sunday, November 17, earning both of the groups a win at the Medina County Tournament. The boy’s team game resulted in a tournament-record 4,038 pinfall in three individual games and five Baker games against Highland, while the girl’s team game ended in a 3,207 total against Buckeye.
Cecelia Craig, a senior on the girl’s bowling team, has been on the varsity team since her freshman year.
“Coming into the tournament, we were pretty confident we were going to win it,” Craig said. “We won it last year, and our team has gotten a lot stronger since last season. So, it wasn’t much of a surprise that we had won it.”
One sophomore, Hayden Eagon-Mohlmaster, has been bowling since last year on the boy’s bowling team. Eagon-Mohlmaster bowled a school record of 798 his freshman year on the team and was named the boys’ individual champ this year with a 692.
“We were ecstatic because last year, it was the first time going to the tournament, and I didn’t know what to expect,” Eagon-Mohlmaster said. “When we won that [last year’s] tournament, we were all really excited because we did [it] as a team, and I broke a school record. But, this year, coming into it, we were very confident, and we knew that we had a really good chance of maybe winning it again.”
These wins have brought the girl’s team closer together and have taught them how to understand and help each other.
“We have a solid group of girls this season,” Craig said. “We all have kind of been friends for a couple of years and have built a tight, close bond together, so we know how to help each other and how to read each other when someone is in their head and needs to be picked up.”
The boy’s team has also been connected in the same way, developing into a close-knit field of friends rather than surface-level teammates.
“We’ve been bowling together for a very long time, and we’ve connected throughout the years,” Eagon-Mohlmaster said. “So, I feel like being able to actually be with our friends on the team and then doing well is more than a plus.”
Succeeding together as a team and growing close has heightened the Wadsworth bowling’s winning abilities, making both the boy’s and girls’ teams hold out hope for a win for their respective teams.
