Wadsworth High School’s newspaper, The Bruin, and Paul Taylor’s Broadcasting class have begun working together this school year to bring all WHS Media together under one platform. Both programs will now share the Bruin name, website, and social media accounts.
The groups wanted to place all the media work within the school together by using the Bruin brand. The Bruin website, the newspaper, the yearbook and Broadcasting now share all information and resources.
“Even though it just started, I think the little bit that we have done together has been great,” said Eric Heffinger, adviser of the Bruin newspaper.
Initially, the idea was proposed because Taylor wanted to get his announcements going regularly so that people would expect them. This brought on the idea of sharing the same name and website between the teams.
Since discussing just a little over a year ago, Heffinger and Taylor have successfully worked together to bring the idea to life.
“I really like that it’s a one-stop shop for all Wadsworth High School news,” Heffinger said. “You can find the morning announcements and all these things every single day, updated on our website along with the stories we produce.”
Students participating in the classes are also enjoying this change.
“I think the collaboration between the Bruin and Broadcasting is going fairly well,” said Camila Hernadez, a student in Broadcasting. “I think it will only get better as this year goes on and both groups can work together even more.”
In the future, both programs plan to introduce podcasts on the website and plan to have at least one story per printed issue that also has a video component involved.
WHS’s morning announcement show, “Good Morning Grizzlies,” can be viewed on the Bruin’s homepage or on YouTube.
