Sabrina Carpenter’s 12-track album “Short n’ Sweet” was released on August 23, 2024. Carpenter’s sixth studio album features producers like Julian Bunetta, John Ryan, Ian Kirkpatrick, and Jack Antonoff. This is Carpenter’s second studio album after she finished her contract with Hollywood Records and began working under Island Records.
“I think she’s in a new era [for ‘Short n’ Sweet’]… It’s different from ‘emails i can’t send’ and all the different albums she’s had before,” said Ava Porchowsky, a fan of Carpenter.
This album begins with “Taste,” which is very upbeat and confident, and provides the background to the whole album. The album has many flirtatious and witty lyrics, which is the semblance of Carpenter’s personality. The lyrics also tell of dealing with mistreatment from boyfriends, love, heartbreak, and being self-assured. The entire collection of songs bounces from 00s pop, country, bluegrass, and even disco.
Along with the album’s release, the social media app TikTok has given Carpenter a platform to give her fans a way to support her. Millions of users have used the twelve songs to make edits, dancing videos, and remixes of the tracks. Carpenter also provided users a way to customize their profile pictures on the app, an outline of a red lipstick mark, which Carpenter had on her shoulder on the album cover. Many listeners of the singles that Carpenter had put out beforehand first listened on the app, those songs being “Espresso” and “Please Please Please”.
“I never listened to [the album fully]… I’ve heard a couple of songs, [and I would rate them] a four out of five stars,” said Kailynn Caldwell, a Carpenter fan. “[My favorite song is] ‘Please Please Please.’”
“Short n’ Sweet” is a complex and bubbly album, showcasing Carpenter’s talents as a confident singer-songwriter, a mature pop star, and a playful lyricist. Her image of being self-sufficient and risque is portrayed throughout the album, providing listeners with a side of Carpenter that many have just come to learn and love. With Carpenter rising to fame, she is becoming a famed and followed artist, which is well-deserved.
