Popular rapper Destroy Lonely has dropped a new full-length album, titled “LOVE LASTS FOREVER,” following up last year’s “If Looks Could Kill.” Last year’s album gained mediocre reviews from both users and critics, and this new album was supposed to be a “return to form” for Lonely. With the executive producer being Lil88, known for his mediocre production and sound, expectations were very low.
The album begins with “FOREVER,” an intro track with female vocals to start, and a soft bell backing track to accompany the vocals. It begins to pick up and then transitions to Lonely’s verse of a generic trap beat. The next track features Lil Uzi Vert, one of the only features on the record. The track meanders around a bit before it begins to pick up near the end.
The major highlight of the album is the previously released single “LUV 4 YA.” This track has the most solid production and rapping on the album, which does not say much considering the rest of the material in the album.
“I thought the production was pretty bad on some tracks,” said Daniel Thuestad, who listened to the album shortly after it was released.
One of the main problems with this whole album is that many tracks could have been cut to reduce the already large 21-song tracklist. The production at some points can be so incredibly boring and stale to the point where it sounds just like every other rage trap song.
After the album was released, Destroy Lonely began releasing deluxe versions that fans could buy from his website, each featuring 1-3 new songs. There are 2 deluxe versions, “LOVE LASTS FOREVER V2,” and “LOVE LASTS FOREVER V2.5.” It features five new songs, SMOKING, HEALING, FORGOT MY NAME, LSD, and MONEY ANTHEM. These tracks were surprisingly good and well produced, which varies from the rest of the album.
“I liked the deluxe tracks, they were pretty well done,” said Emerson Phillips, a fan of the album.
Overall, the album is an incredibly long and boring experience, with almost no creativity or musical flavor. This album was marketed as a return to form but is the complete opposite. It is just an album with generic production and mediocre lyrics at best.
