The Wadsworth Grizzlies football team took on the Twinsburg Tigers this past Friday at Art Wright Stadium. The Grizzlies came out on top winning 35-24 advancing their record to 3-1.
Throughout the whole game the Grizzlies and the Tigers were in a tight race to victory. The Grizzlies started down in the first quarter by seven and in the first half lost an important part of their defensive line, senior Liam Russell, to an injury. By half time, the Grizzlies were able to tie up the game by senior quarterback Will Stack’s five yard touchdown bringing the score to 14-14.
“I felt like the run was a real momentum changer and it really allowed us to take control of the game after that,” Stack said.
Stack had a total of 160 passing yards during the game and was essential in the success of the offensive line during Friday’s game.
In the third quarter, the Grizzlies had to fight their way through being down 24-21. Although being down is an unusual feeling for the Grizzlies, they turned to senior Kyle Figuray to put them back up on the scoreboard. Figuray had a 37 yard touchdown run, putting the Grizzlies up a comfortable amount against the Tigers. He finished Friday night with 15 carriers for 139 yards.
The Grizzlies took full control in the fourth quarter by scoring another touchdown and getting a crucial fumble recovery.
“We made some changes and saw that they were hurting and started to give up, so we took that as an opportunity to shut them out of the game,” said Luke Ryder, a senior on the team.
Next week, the Grizzlies will take on the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Bees for senior night at Art Wright Stadium.
