PBIS boogies its way into Wadsworth High

Newly brought to Wadsworth by Dr. Suber, Wadsworth High School had its first PBIS Party (Positive Behavior Incentives and Supports) on Thursday, November 4 in the high school field house.

The requirements to be invited included, no disciplinary action, a GPA of at least 1.7 and complete final forms. The week before the dance, Suber reported over 1200 students met all the requirements and would be invited.

“I thought it was a good way to celebrate people with good grades,” said Gavin Parks, a freshman at WHS.

During the party, hot dogs were cooked by Mr. Berlin and Colin Moore, and were then served by Dr. Suber and other staff members. Chips and milk were also served. Music also played throughout the party by a live DJ.

Dwayne Gordon, the live DJ, is owner of Audio Extremes, and has been DJing for 30 years. He has done events similar in schools like Solon, Midpark, Mayfield Heights, Shaker Heights, Stough, Kent, and Streetsboro.

Towards the end of the dance, Gordon called students around for a dance competition. In the first round, three groups of boys went against each other, each taking turns dancing. After all three had danced, the crowd of students would decide the winner based on who cheered the loudest. The same with the second round, but with three groups of girls. In the end, group three for both boys and girls won.

Katie Allen is a senior and has been on the staff for four years, her current position is Print Editor-In-Chief. She is most looking forward to seeing what awards the staff can win this year at OSMA, she hopes this year the Bruin can win All-State. Her favorite part about Bruin is all the new and interesting people she gets to meet and how she gets to share their stories through her writing in the Bruin. She believes anyone who is on the fence about joining Bruin should just go for it and try something new because there are so many different opportunities for students on the staff.
